How to walk with God
When I sat down to write this I stopped, closed my eyes and asked the Lord to write it for me, because too often I try to make my will Gods will. This is the first step in How to walk with God.
Prayer is the key to walking with God, it is keeping in contact with God and keeping ourselves in check. But Repentance is a must to prayer and walking with God. Therefore, I'll start off with what it means to repent and go from there.
Repentance:
What is repentance? As with all things in scripture, men have their opinion on definition, some educated and some laymen, but all belief is equal. I believe that Repentance is facing personal sin with a clear understanding of self fault, and a desire to serve God and not partake in what ever sin is separating us from God.
When I repent, I first know that I am doing something that is not right with Gods will. I know this by knowledge of scripture, how I was raised, or just an inner feeling that what I am doing is wrong. Conviction comes from God. God convicts us of our sin because he loves us and wants us to turn to Him once more. God is our Father, and a loving Father wants the best for his children and will do everything He can to guide us to a better way. God is the Way, the Truth, and the Light.
Let me stop for a minute and tell you that I am a Christian, and follow the teachings of Jesus the Christ. I was born-again in 1986 when I was 21. I had came to an end of myself and having known God since I was a child, I wanted to know what it meant to know God through Jesus Christ. I believed that there was only one way to know God and that was to Repent and ask Jesus to forgive me of my sins and to come into my life. I wanted to be Saved and had heard about Salvation through Jesus Christ.
You see, it was not me that was leading me to Jesus and His plan of Salvation, it was Gods love that was with me all my life gently pointing to His Son Jesus and God would whisper to me that Jesus was His way to Himself. Of course I didn't know that at the time I got saved, I just knew that I was miserable and had tried so many things to stop the misery.....nothing worked for long, except Repentance and Repentance has worked for me 26 years. That's right, I repent all the time. I'm not saying that you should beat yourself up, but I am saying that as a human being we have to continuously do a self inventory. As a matter of fact, the more one study's scripture, the more one becomes aware of the Righteousness of God, and the more repentance occurs.
How to be saved:
The way we become saved is by praying and asking God to forgive us for all the sins that we have committed in our lives and asking Him into our heart in the Name of Jesus. Confess your sins to God and he will forgive you. Simply asking Jesus to come into our hearts and save us is asking God into your life. He loves us and will forgive us....he said he would and he is not a liar.
Now, that we are saved we will sin again....or at least I do, and I confess that I have sinned and ask for forgiveness, then I make a conscious decision not to do what ever I was doing that made me feel that I was sinning. We turn from our sins and walk with God. Walking with God is not an easy task, because we are naturally sinners and God is Holy and Righteous. For me, sin is falling short of Gods Will. What I mean is that when I know something is not what God wants for me and I do it anyway that I have sinned and must repent in order to continue to walk with God. If I do not repent of my sin, I believe that I am not walking with God in this life but have in fact turned away from God and am walking toward sin. Sin leads to Death - Spiritual Sickness and Disease...misery and pain.
Walking with God begins with the desire to rid your life from ALL things that are not in agreement with who God is. All things that are not Holy and Pure. All things that you know God does not approve of. God is Light, God is Love, God is Holy and Pure, Righteous and Just.
To walk with God we have to walk in the light. Sin is darkness. Think about that...what happens when you turn on a light? The darkness is pressed away or converted to light....but darkness can not exist in light. When we sin, we have a stain on our souls and darkness in our hearts. Where is God when we are in darkness? He is in Himself, surrounded by light and love, and calling our names...knocking on our hearts door, asking us to let him in so He can bring the light and rid the darkness. So, we pray....God please come into my heart! Get it....poof....darkness is gone, death is pressed away and Love fills us. There is so much to say about this and who we are in Him. Who we are as living beings, and how we were created. A hint: You are a Temple of the Living God. Designed to house the very creator of all things. You are designed as a human being to live in time and be one with infinity. We are created to be us and to be exhorted in Him. Anyway, perhaps I'll get into that later : ) I'm kind of eat up with how amazing and wonderful it is to walk with God in His Son Jesus. Thank you Father for giving me a way to fellowship with you....thank you for your Son Jesus.
I'm not sure if this came across very clear and perhaps I should re-write it, but for now I hope this will do for you. And remember....How to walk with God is by staying in contact with Him. Pray always and in all things. Repent quickly, forgive yourself, and continue to march on. We are not on earth for a feel good party. We are on earth to Worship the Living God, and we can not worship God if we don't let him in to our lives....continuously.
OK....Lastly, I want to pray for all that are going to read this:
Father, Abba Father, I ask in the Name of Jesus that you would have mercy on me and forgive me of my sins. Please Lord send your Holy Spirit to those who need to read this and lead and guide them here. Please forgive us for choosing sin over you and walking away from you. I ask Lord Jesus my God to stir the hearts of your people, and keep us from becoming numb to sin. Father I ask that you would pour your Spirit out to those who have came here and are struggling....please Father have Mercy on us and grant us you strength in the Name of Jesus. In Jesus name I pray...Amen.
God bless you and keep you and yours, all the days of your life : )
